Gout is said to be the most painful form of arthritis. It can affect people from a very early age, but it is more common in the middle aged and elderly.

Options for curing gout include medication. But is medicating yourself really a cure? I don’t think so, and my personal opinion is that there are many ways forward that don’t include taking uric acid lowering drugs for the rest of my life. As far as I am concerned, that is not a gout cure at all, but it’s just masking the true problems.

I prefer to focus on gout cures that are more natural. Generally a natural cure is able to help you more than something specifically designed as a cure for gout. By this I mean that they offer you the overall health benefits , treating you as a whole person and not just a uric acid generating machine.

Understanding what gout it is the first step. Since it is a build up of uric acid in the body it makes sense to pursue a cure for gout that will reduce that uric acid level. This can come about in two ways. Firstly you could help your body to create less uric acid in the first place. Secondly you can actively work to make it easier for the body to expel the uric acid from your body.

The saying that you are what you eat is very true but many of us still fail to eat right. You need foods that are high in nutrients, that are natural, and that will help to naturally flush the uric acid from your body.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are a natural provider of powerful antioxidants and a variety of minerals that help your cells to function.

Forgetting about gout for a minute… just eating more healthy foods will give you a much better life all round. You will have a decreased risk of many diseases, and you will actually feel a lot better because you are giving your body everything that it needs to operat optimally.

On top of proper diet you need to ensure you drink enough water.

Water – a vital ingredient when curing gout

Drinking lots of water is one of the best gout cures on the planet! While drinking water alone probably won’t mean you get rid fo your gout entirely, combined with proper eating it will help you a lot. It allows your cells to be hydrated properly, and assist them in expelling the unwanted uric acid from the body. There are so many people that don’t get enough water in their daily intake, but in this day and age it should be really quite easy. You should make it a point to have a container of water handy at all times. If you can’t stomach plain water, then add lemon or orange to it. You can even add some cherry juice to make it taste better. You’ll get the double whammy of the antioxidants from the cherry while increasing your water intake.

Weight loss as a gout cure

Do you know what your ideal body weight is? Are you close to that weight? If you have excess weight or body fat then this gives you a significantly increased risk of gout. In fact it is described by some as the leading cause of gout. So take care of your body and your weight. Your feet will thank you for it!

Making such drastic changes to your life may be tough and seem overwhelming at first. However, you just need to work on making small changes at a time. Plan meals, establish a workout schedule, and stick to them. If you feel that you are ready to give up just think about that pain you have had with gout in the past. There are very few people that are willing to allow that to happen again.

Instant gout pain home remedies

Applying ice directly to the inflamed joint for 20 – 30 minutes helps in gout pain relief and decrease the swelling. If the pain is specifically in the big toe, soaking the affected foot in a warm tub of Epsom Salt gives instant relief from the pain, due to magnesium present in it. Magnesium releases stress, soothes aching muscles and relieves pain in no time.

Apple Cider Vinegar is an excellent home remedy for many diseases, primarily gout pain. Organic apple cider vinegar mixed with organic honey in equal quantity, if taken twice a day causes the pain to subside within a few hours’ time.

Baking soda is something that many gout sufferers swear by. just take a teaspoon into a large glass of water and drink it. The theory is that this helps alkalize the body, and make it harder for uric acid crystals to cause havoc!

If you must… medication to cure immmediate gout pain can be useful

Patients suffering from repeated attacks of gout pain might want to consider medication for gout pain relief, along with the home remedies used to ease the unbearably painful attacks. While I prefer to promote natural methods, I never used to stick 100% to them!

My favorite medication for gout was nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), but others use colchicine and simple painkillers.

Note that some patients cannot tolerate NSAIDs, as they can have some bad side effects, including stomach bleeding. Colchicine can cause nausea and vomiting.

Gout medication side effects can be nasty. Before deciding whether to take medication, or even to stop taking medication, it pays to check with your doctor first.

Gout home treatments on the other hand are generally very safe, as long as you are sensible and don’t go over the top! Remedies such as these have been used for years – centuries – and many people still swear by them today.

You hold the key to a cure for gout. It doesn’t matter if you have been dealing with it due to heredity, your diet, your weight, or a combination of reasons. It doesn’t matter if you have had gout for years or if it is a new factor in your life. Take action now to prevent it from getting worse and from causing you extreme pain.
