Pat (a reader) has this to say:

This book is very informative. I fully understand what you are saying about taking a scattergun approach to keeping gout away … My gout is a result of blood pressure (diuretics) meds I am now not taking. Hopefully, I will not have another attack. Your book is great. I was confused by all the conflicting information out there. Your book help put everything into perspective.

Sick Of Your Gout Pain?

So sorry to hear that. There’s not an awful lot you can do while you are in the middle of an attack, but there is sure something you can do afterwards… and that’s to take a real close look at your diet and lifestyle. As you are finding, having gout is not something you want to go through a lot!

my brother has suffered with gout for years. I am not familiar with it at all but… he had a massive heart attack in October and has not been able to move since due to this gout. He was on a medication for it prior to the heart attack but he was instructed to no longer take it (it would kill him). He is in major pain and can barely move (definately not walk) Does anyone have any advice for me to forward to him to help PLEASE

Wow I’m really sorry to hear that Cindy. I hope he gets better soon. It sounds like he has a number of medical conditions going on, and probably some that you haven’t mentioned. I think that he really needs to seek professional help. Without knowing the full details, it’s quite possible that he was pumped full of medications during his heart attack episode and there is a certain school of thought that thinks that medication has an acidifying effect on the body. Perhaps your brother should look into the alkaline diet options. You can find out a heap of information about alkaline diet here. Certainly his body will be under all sorts of stress at the moment so it’s no surprise that he’s suffering. All the best, I hope he recovers soon.

Hi,

Is there anything I can do to reduce the pain of a gout attack in my foot without taking medication.

I would normally take “Indomethacin” when a attack occurs, but do to a scheduled surgery on my knee in a few days I am not allowed to use the “Indomethacin”

I have been drinking lots of water to clean me out, but is not helping.

the pain is really bothering me.

thanks in advance for your comments,

mike

Have you tried the baking soda trick? Many people report good success with it. 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a tall glass of water, several times a day. Personally I’ve never tried it, but I know some people swear by it.

Use common sense and don’t overdo it. Just a few times a day.
