In The Toe

Not only does gout toe look terrible, it is very painful. The redness and throbbing can last for days. The pain is excruciating due to the uric acid crystals that form in the joints. It is usually the big toe that is affected but that isn’t necessarily the only one. For some people other toes can be affected as well as other parts of the foot. It all depends on how much uric acid is in the body and where it settles.

In the past this disease was believed to be just another form of arthritis that affected older individuals. In today’s society though it is affecting people who are very young, such as those in their 20?s and 30?s. It is believed that this condition in these age groups is the result of poor eating habits or genetics. When you think about the amount of processed foods people eat today compared to in the past that makes sense.

Eating large amounts of processed foods, red meats, and dairy that isn’t low in fat can all increase the amount of acid that is in the body. Individuals that consume alcohol frequently are also at a higher risk of attacks occurring. This is especially true if they consume beer due to the various ingredients found in it.

Drinking lots of water allows you to flush toxins and acids from the body. When you don’t urinate very often you are keeping that acid in your body. This will encourage it to deposit in the joints where it turns into hard crystals. Drink more water and you will find you urinate several more times a day than you did before. It may be inconvenient but is a small price to pay for the freedom from toe pain.

Even a 10-minute daily exercise can greatly help gout sufferers in controlling weight.

We all know that we need to exercise daily but studies show that more than half of the people in the USA are overweight. By reducing excess weight and working out, the body has a natural way of flushing uric acid. Start out slowly if you haven’t been exercising recently. Dedicate 10 minutes a day to getting moving and then continue to increase that amount of time to at least 30 minutes.

You don’t have to spend tons of money on a gym membership or buy equipment for your home. You should take part in aerobic movements and stretching daily though. Go for a walk after dinner, park at the end of the parking lot at the store, and take the stairs instead of the elevator for starters. Get outside and toss a ball around with your kids too.

Then you get exercise while enjoying some quality time with them.
Consider taking a daily vitamin supplement as well. Gout toe can develop if the body is lacking in certain vitamins. The common ones are Vitamins A, B5, and E. While you should consume lots of fresh fruits and vegetables for these vitamins a supplement can help as well. Look for a supplement that also contains Folic Acid.

Many forms of berries including blueberries, strawberries, and cherries are able to quickly neutralize the uric acid too when you feel that problems may be starting.
