Did you know that many gout treatments are known to have serious side-effects and can even be LIFE-THREATENING!
Sufferers of gout are often advised to take NSAIDs, Colchicine or Allopurinol. These commonly prescribed treatments are proven to help relieve or prevent attacks. But they can also have dangerous side effects, and possibly even be life-threatening.
Read on to find out why you should be looking for natural cures instead.
When I first had a gout attack, I spent a lot of time researching the treatments. I thought I would do anything to get rid of this incredibly excruciating pain. But once I researched some of the side effects I wasn’t so sure that I would!
The information about potential side effects from the different types of treatment medication floored me! Just some of the things I found are below.
NSAIDs commonly cause stomach lining damage!
NSAIDs are commonly prescribed to relieve the inflammation and pain from an acute attack. However before you decide to use them make sure you check out these quotes from an internationally recognised expert on gout, Professor Emeritus Bryan Emmerson.
“Damage to the lining membrane of the stomach is so common with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug therapy that it can be almost looked upon as an effect of therapy and not merely a side effect”
“Kidney function may deteriorate”
“The use of these drugs increases the risk of complications from a peptic ulcer by three to four times”
Colchicine side effects: diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting!
Another commonly prescribed gout medication, colchicine is known to cause diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. In fact some sources state that the only way to know the correct dosage of colchicine is to keep upping the dosage until you actually get those symptoms!
Sorry about the mental image I’m about to create… imagine having to make a mad dash to the bathroom with either diarrhoea or nausea … but you can hardly walk!
The first six words you see if you look up colchicine on Wikipedia are “Colchicine is a toxic natural product”. Also on Wikipedia “High doses can also damage bone marrow and lead to anaemia” and “Colchicine poisoning has been compared to arsenic poisoning”
Allopurinol may be life-threatening!
One fact I read on allopurinol side effects stopped me in my tracks. “Other side effects, commonly referred to as a general hyper-sensitivity, are much more serious and may even be life-threatening.”
And another ends “… fever, dermatitis (with loss of superficial skin), liver disease, and inflammation of the kidney with rapid deterioration of kidney function”.
Now that’s scary!
There is an alternative
I don’t know about you, but the side-effects of these gout medications do not appeal. But luckily there is an alternative, because natural treatments are effective in relieving and even preventing gout.
These treatments can be as simple as eating certain foods and avoiding others. Gout and diet are very much interlinked, and it is important to understand how your diet can be responsible for your joint pain.
